Shelby's Engagement Photos

Friday, February 17, 2017
I was lucky to get to take my sister's engagement photos! They were so fun to take!
Just to brag a little -  I'm not the best photographer but I am pretty good at digital editing as you can see from the before and after below.

Happy Valentines Day!

Tuesday, February 14, 2017
This is the third year in a row that Logan has been gone over Valentines Day. Thats ok because it is probably my least favorite holiday and I had this little man to share it with! I love this little guys so much!! He still isn't feeling that well but we played outside almost all of today until he was so tired he went to bed at 7.
I love the picture below! It really shows his happy face so perfectly!
And here are all the goofy faces I got! He cracks me up! And yes the rice cake was a mandatory prop apparently. Connor wouldn't sit without it. I took it away once and he went and got it and climbed back up on the stool to eat it again. When it was done so was he and I didn't get any shots after that.
The balloon was from a beautiful orchid plant that Logan gave me before he left.

Ear Infection

Friday, February 10, 2017
Back to real life. A few days before flying back from the states Connor started running a fever and his green boogers came back.

He had his fever on and off for over 5 days so I knew it was time to call the doctor. I called the clinic but they are doing military exercises this week and said they didn't have any appointments available today so I had to take him to the ER. I really didn't want to because going to the ER takes so long for everything but I really felt like he needed to be seen. I'm still sick and Logan's leaving tomorrow for a week so I knew I just needed to take care of it.

When I went to check him in the guy behind the desk told me they can't really do anything for cold symptoms. Always makes me annoyed when people don't take my son's sickness seriously. Sometimes when Connor was running around happy and climbing over chairs I can see why though.
At the ER they took his vitals measured and weighed him took his temperature then sent me off to radiology to take x-rays of his lungs to make sure didn't have pneumonia. Then the nurse listened to his lungs and his heart. Then we got to wait around for over a half hour to see the doctor.
Once he came in he listened to Connors lungs more time and lastly he checked his ears. After two seconds of looking in his right year he confirmed that Connor did have an ear infection. Is it just me or don't you think they could have checked his ears first and saved us about two hours?!

We waited around again for about another half hour to get his prescriptions. By then it was past Connor's Naptime and he was super tired! He fell asleep almost instantly when we got in the car. Right before we left the hospital Connor Peed out of his diaper and the only change of clothes I had were shorts. Usually that's just fine but today when it was about in the mid 50s and raining it was quite cold! So I had to bundle Connor up in his Blankey and I thought it was super cute how he fell asleep like this.
Here's to hoping he starts feeling better soon!

First Day of Soccer

I was excited for Connor's soccer lessons - until he got an ear infection and it was only 50 degrees outside. Poor buddy was not a fan at first. But after seeming the other little kids playing he eventually got down to play.
It was a cute little class. The kids don't actually play a traditional soccer game but played some little games and learned a few basics like trapping the ball with one foot (Connor didn't do that at all) and taking water breaks. They got color cards and then had to go find the right color hoop.
Then they got to do a small obstacle course and Connor loved that!
Other than all the crying, trying to keep him on the field and from climbing the trees it and the cold it was pretty cute and fun.

I love Design

Thursday, January 12, 2017
Sometimes I like to play around with photoshop! In fact, that is what my husband refers to as "my game" because I think it is so much fun to wast time on!
As I was learning how to make watercolor backgrounds I remembered a picture of whales I'd seen on Pinterest. So I made this loosely based on that. I love it! I think I'll have it printed and find a place to hang it up in the house.
Just last week my niece had a Star Wars themed birthday party and I got to make this birthday invitation! Next to attending the party, I thought this was a pretty fun way to help my sister with the it!
I really have so much fun making things like this. Sometimes I think it would be way fun to have an Etsy shop for prints, invitations and clip art but when you go on there it is so saturated with stuff like that I don't think there would be much new I could offer.
My other problem is that I have a ton other hobbies that I bounce in between. Some weeks it is editing a photoshoot, blogging, I still have a quilt to finish binding, Connor's baby book and recently I've taken up the role of "master baker" for my little sister's wedding and have been working on perfecting my cupcake recipe and frosting technique. I guess I'm just doomed to love too many things.

Adventure Group: Miyagi and Ikei Island

Monday, January 9, 2017
I was really brave and went out with the Adventure Group this week. It was early and a little far away so I hadn't planned on going the day before. That morning I was woken up by what sounded like banging on my door but no one was there by the time I checked. So I went back upstairs and got back in bed but I was wide awake. Then 40 minutes before I needed to meet up I decided I would just go! I showered packed us breakfast and lunches plus things to keep Connor entertained and then woke him up, changed him and threw him in the car! We totally made it to the meet up spot on time! So off we drove over the bridge to the little island chain next to Okinawa.

Merry Christmas

Sunday, December 25, 2016
Trying to think of how to recap this year. I'd say it could be defined by "work hard, play hard".  Logan was gone for most of the first half of this year but luckily he has been around since August! I started this year with Connor in the states at Katie and Jeff's house. They were so good to take us in along with Mom & Dad for the holidays while Logan was in Singapore.
Some of the bigger things we did this year were our trips! In March Logan's mom came and watched Connor while we went to Cambodia. Then we got to visit the states again this last summer and finished the year up with South Korea and our cruise to Southeast Asia!
Connor is now 36 inches tall and 30 pounds! He just went through a growth spirt and everyone comments on how big he is! He's a lot of fun AND a lot of work too! He is happiest when he has free range to run, climb and throw things. I just laugh when people around me comment on how high energy he is. Haha - they have no clue! Connor loves cars, olives, watching anything animated and being outside. He still isn't talking much but we usually know what he wants. He has big expressions and loves to squeal in delight (until my ears ring). We love him!
I think my favorite part of this year is that we really have his allergies under control and life has been much better (for all of us). Connor's first year of life was really hard for me. His second, although very busy, has been much better and we are glad to see him healthy and growing.
Logan has been working the hardest of all this year. Between trips and work he finished his masters degree and Spanish language courses. He has also been excelling at work and has been given two awards for it this year. His favorite activity is spending time with us at home. Other than financially taking care of all of us, Logan also gets up and plays with Connor on Saturdays, washes the dishes everyday and rubs my back while we watch TV! He is pretty great.
As for me, I feel like most of my accomplishments fall under "I kept Connor alive another year". I feel like I haven't really done much to better myself this year (goal for next year!). But I am proud that I get to teach and spend time with my little man everyday, I serve my friends and neighbors in small ways, I've done several photo shoots, blogged and kept our house together (despite what Connor does). Life is good.
We have loved living in Okinawa but have a move coming up next year. It will be sad to leave but a new fun adventure and we wait in anticipation to learn where that will be. We are excited to come to the states again in January for my little sister Shelby's wedding.

Merry Christmas everyone!
