I was really brave and went out with the Adventure Group this week. It was early and a little far away so I hadn't planned on going the day before. That morning I was woken up by what sounded like banging on my door but no one was there by the time I checked. So I went back upstairs and got back in bed but I was wide awake. Then 40 minutes before I needed to meet up I decided I would just go! I showered packed us breakfast and lunches plus things to keep Connor entertained and then woke him up, changed him and threw him in the car! We totally made it to the meet up spot on time! So off we drove over the bridge to the little island chain next to Okinawa.
Nuchi Masu Salt Factory
They make salt here out of ocean water and it is supposed to be really really good for you because it keeps all the nutrients! Looking in the window you could see how it looks like snow! Then they had windows to the floor below where they sort and pack it.
They even made salt snow men! haha
Happy Cliff
Just next to the factory was a short walk that lead to this beautiful lover look!
There was a shrine at the beginning of the trail and my Visiting Teaching companion picked Connor up to show him the dragon statue above the shrine!
Connor was then obsessed with it! "oh wow!"
Nakabaru Mura Ruins (Nanbara ruins of Ichi no Sato)
Next stop we visited ancient restored huts from early Okinawan people.
A little history
I totally discovered something new called sleeping grass!
You might wonder why this photo was so impressive. Well it was! I actually put Connor down and told him to stay and he did! Long enough for one picture before he ran off again.
Old Spring
We hiked down this super rugged "stairway" of rocks to this old natural spring. Sailors used to stop here to refill their ship's water stores.
We all took turns taking a drink.
Even Connor got to try - although he pulled his hands away at the last second and dumped it all over his shorts.
Connor had a dirty diaper so I headed back a little sooner so they didn't have to wait on me. I was not even half the way up looking down on them. It was quite the workout as I had Connor in the carrier on my back.
Pretty View!
Ikeijima Lighthouse
Cute little lighthouse.
Women's Shrine
Just down a little trail from the lighthouse was this shrine. One of the women said it was a place for women to go to after having a miscarriage, stillborn or abortion. There the mother (or small group of family) can conduct a small ceremony for the lost child called Mizuko kuyō.
