Celebrating Fathers Day at the Dixons

Sunday, June 19, 2016
Wednesday morning Logan called and said that he might be leaving that night! It turned out there were not any flights so he was told he would likely be leaving Sunday. So we celebrated Father's Day on Saturday because we were not sure if Logan would be here or not. I think it turned out great! And as always, I show my love with food! I spent all afternoon cooking while Logan was at work and Connor napped.

I made him cupcakes and hamburgers with all the fixings! I know cupcakes don't sound that exciting but these were salted caramel filled cupcakes with chocolate buttercream frosting (all made from scratch)! They were not that pretty but tasted so good! I really don't think I will ever be able to eat any type of cake again without yummy caramel being inside! The caramel sauce doesn't turn hard but rather soaks into the cake making it super moist and making every bite taste amazing! Like I said, they were good.
I decided to make hamburger buns too after looking at the store and seeing all the flat nasty buns! Plan A, I was going to make nice soft buns but when I got into my bread flour there were too many things crawling around. Yuck! So I pitched that, cleared out the other flours next to it in the pantry and Plan B was turn the yeast starter I had already made into pretzel buns because they only used regular flour and sounded fancy. Didn't they turn out great! I don't love hamburgers but these were pretty good!
One nice thing about having Logan open his presents early was I was able to give Logan his picture of Connor as a surprise and then I was able to take some photos for my dad the next day with Logan's help! Connor didn't really cooperate any more this time around but he was in a good mood and it made all the difference to have two more hands! Connor flashed this smile at me one of the many times his daddy helped reset him back on the stool. I thought it was so adorable!
Bedtime stories! So glad Logan didn't have to leave Wednesday and is with us for a few more days longer.

Last Week and Memorial Weekend

Wednesday, June 1, 2016
After Logan got back from his last trip he took a week off to get caught up on his master's paper (he will turn the final paper in at the end of July). It was great having him home and we got a lot of family time in! I also got some 'me' time and that meant a pedicure! I love my whale sharks!
Connor's hair was getting a little (lot) wild looking and Logan needed a cut as well so both the boys got haircuts together! The first time Connor really didn't like the whole idea (he was sick) but this time I had Totoro ready on the iPad and he did a great job! I think seeing his daddy there helped make it ok.
Handsome boys!
More views of his cut.
I asked him to close the door so he stood inside and pulled it closed. lol Not what I meant.
Sometimes we are fun parents and this week with Connor being so grumpy (still teething) all new things were a nice break. We took Connor to a little play area at the mall. You pay for 30 minutes at a time but that was all we needed to have a fun time! Connor loved the ball pit and the balloon room! They also had a toy section and dress up stuff. At the end he was very happy when they gave him a balloon!
We also checked out a new park that is nearby our house just off base. It was cool but a little too old for Connor. In a few more months I think he will like it a lot better.
I love the geckos here. One day I noticed one had laid eggs in the door latch - they are so cute and little! One got crushed so I bought a little cage from the dollar store to put the other one in. I should say it is for Connor or to keep it safe but it totally is not. I did it all for me! As soon as it hatches I will set it free. Till then it is great fun for me to check on it every day!
Three canine teeth through, one to go.... Sometimes Connor will go ahhhh when I ask to see his teeth now but usually not. haha
Date night! We went to one of our favorite places we have not been to in a while called Arin Krin or the Garlic House because every dish is garlic-y and oh so good! And we are such fatties!!! Yes, we ordered all that for the two of us and ate it all!
So what do you do after eating all that?! You go check out a freak shake place and share one of them too! It is called a freak shake because it is big with lots of stuff on top and it was ok. I think it looked more impressive then it tasted. Still a fun new adventure.
Probably the funnest thing we did all week was take Connor to a Dinosaur park that just opened up a month ago! It is supposed to be like you are walking though Jurassic Park and seeing all the live animals. Connor was interested when he first saw them but when Logan picked him up and the dinosaur started moving and roaring, he was all smiles!
This is about an hour north from where we live. It was VERY jungly.
Connor was not scared of that thing for one second. He really wanted to put his hands in all of their mouths!
I thought this one was pretty neat!
Rides. Slide was his favorite!
This cone and the water running along side the paths were awesome too! My favorite was Connor running down the path roaring!
So much fun! We tuckered this little guy out!
After driving home and his nap we went to the Kadena Marina beach but they were doing a outdoor movie showing of Jaws and it was packed. So we went home after just a little bit and let Connor play at the park by our house. I thought it was great that to completely smash the little sand castle Connor laid on top of it.
Some other scenes from this week.
Memorial day we grilled. I seasoned our corn 4 different ways! Coconut Curry, Season Salt, Garlic Salt and Ranch. Next time I will put more seasoning on them but both our favorite was the garlic one! I got these fancy salts from a company called Saltopia a while back and that is where the Coconut Curry and Garlic Salt were from. Our steak turned out great as well.
I was pretty impressed that Connor mostly left the grill alone when we told him it was hot and he had a great time playing outside the whole time.
Connor hasn't been doing well the last few days. Other then teething I really don't know what is wrong. He has been waking up screaming at night and having lots of crying/fits throughout the day that are not like him. He also just wants to be in my lap all day even when he seems to be in a better mood. I'll take it but I hope he starts feeling better soon.
Monday night Connor wouldn't sleep. He was not a happy camper. After being up with him until 3:30 I decided it was Logan's turn (He had work off the next day). Then sometime around 5:30am I awoke to Connor screaming! I ran down stairs and he had tripped over something and landed his face on the entertainment center. Logan was holding him and a paper towel to his face because he had ripped his lip tie a little bit too. It looked bad! It still does. Poor baby!
The next day he was still grumpy but at least his wound didn't seem to bother him too much. It is just hard to clean after he eats. I was also happy to see some smiles when we went outside to play. The other good news is that the blood came out of all three of our shirts.
Today Connor seemed to feel a bit better.
