Iguazu Falls pt 2
To get to our next hotel we actually had to buy park tickets as it was on the Argentina national park. As we drove through the jungle we saw caution signs to watch out for jaguars crossing and signs to indicate monkey bridges that spanned across the road for them to safely cross.
We drove up to our hotel and it was nice but then we walked into the lobby and my jaw dropped as straight through the back of the hotel had a perfect view of the devil’s throat (the most impressive part of the falls)! I was so impressed I forgot to take a picture but here is one from online where you can see how close the hotel is to the falls.
As we checked in I laughed as they told us to make sure our door was locked because if monkeys stole from our mini bar we would have to pay for it.
The guy who checked us in said he gave us a room with one of the best views. Part of me didn’t believe him because we were told that the night before and ended up not having ac and cockroaches in the bathroom. We got our room keys and headed to room 270. It was the very last room on the hallway.
We opened the door and saw the view.
Wait! What!
We had the most direct view from that end of the hotel right down the devil’s throat! The hard thing was I couldn’t capture how great the view was by eye with my phone. It was all much closer and more wide angle and amazing!
My fav was even the toilet had a view! Instead of a mirror above the sink it was more glass to take every advantage of the view! The sides were frosted and there were blinds but for the two of us we never needed to touch them.
The hotel was much nicer in person than it looked from the other side of the river!
We were ready to see the Argentine side of the falls now. The hotel was already in the park so we just walked out the back to the trails. We found some easy food not far away and ate empanadas and cheese bread with a couple hundred other people while we sat in the jungle and watched an iguana walk by.
After lunch we headed to the train that takes you out to the walkway for the devil’s throat. By the mini train station we found a snack shop and got a few treats and then watched the coatis pester more people.
On the little train! I was starting to miss buddy so bad! He would have loved the whole park and waterfalls!
After the train that takes us up and around to the head of the waterfalls we got out on a walkway that bridges over about a mile of shallow water and strips of jungle.
We knew we were getting close when we could see the mist rising up.
Again it was just a wow moment! Less picturesque than the other side in some ways but wow standing on top of the waterfalls was an experience I’ll never forget! It was no longer just a view. We stood there with the roar of the falls in our ears and watched as the water unceasingly thundered over the cliff. I could totally see how if had I been an explorer 200 years ago finding my boat suddenly staring this down I would believe it to be the devil’s throat.
It was huge and powerful. We just stood and watched the water as it started going down and seemed to break apart as gravity pulled it over. It was so panoramic it was hard to capture. Also with all the mist you can only see about half of the drop.
I don’t remember Niagara Falls much but I’ve read after seeing Iguazú falls all other waterfalls in the world are just a disappointment in size, water volume and grandeur. The only rival being Victoria falls in Africa.
I could have stood there forever except watching the water for too long made me literally dizzy.
As we walked back out on the walkway back this poem was posted and I really liked it!
We ate some of the treats we bought back waiting for the train. All the sudden we had an uninvited guest!
He wasn’t afraid of us even in the least and stood there begging for some food like a dog!
There we tons of signs saying to not feed them because they can be dangerously aggressive should you share and they decide you are not done so we didn't.
There were two other trails to see the lesser falls but the park was going to close in an hour so we headed back to enjoy our super fancy hotel.
Back in our room to change into our swimsuits. I still can’t believe this was our room view! The whole hotel was built with one goal - to enjoy the view of the falls.
As we walked around the hotel lawn all the sudden there were monkeys jumping in the trees! Real wild monkeys right in front of us!
They jumped off into the trees after a while but they were so fun to watch! Logan and I went for a swim in the infinity pool!
All was normal until people started pointing at the hotel. The monkeys hadn’t gone into the jungle but rather over to the side where they could climb up the hotel.
A half dozen climbed right up past our room and started to help themselves to anything left on the balconies. Fortunately we had locked our door so we were safe from monkey burglars.
They ran all across the building until they found what they were looking for! An older couple had their door open just long enough for one to run in, grab a Pringle’s can and back out before getting caught! We watched the old couple come outside with super surprised faces on. The monkeys retreated to the emergency stairs on the side of the building right next to our room. We went back inside to watch them.
Logan and I got cleaned up and since we were in a fancy room got our nice clothes on and ordered room service to have a private dinner in our room together. We sat on our balcony and watched the sunset until our food came up. As the sun went down the falls were enveloped in more and more mist. I also took pictures of the room paperwork because I thought it was so pretty.
The room had a cool bamboo clock that just looked like a block until you tapped the top and lights turned on. I still like bamboo. hehe
We got appetizers, both ordered steak and then dessert (that I don’t think I got a picture of but mine was a passion fruit mousse). Argentina is known for its steak and it did not disappoint! It was perfectly seasoned and cooked!
After dinner we went back out to our balcony to watch a lightning storm from a distance.
Seriously the whole day was one surprise after another and everything put on a show for us and was beyond our expectations. Best day ever!
The next morning we got up early to watch the sun rise.
Breakfast was fancy too!
My favorite thing was the green juice! It was so yummy!
We decided that we are going to go back to this same hotel and hopefully room for our 20 year anniversary. There was still more to do and we could spend a week in this beautiful place just watching sneaky monkeys and watch the falls!
We flew from Iguazu Argentina to Buenos Aires where we had a layover. Getting close to the city there were all these weird water front houses that looked very manmade.
We flew on budget airline and there was nothing near the little satelite airport. The airline was having a celebration anniversary and if you threw a paper airplane into a small hole three times in a row they would give you a free flight! Neither of us won and I was bummed I didn't even get a free hat. Back in the terminal we had to choose from the whole one place to eat at but I had a yummy croissant and muffin.
